Every week, we pick a Conservative Douchebag of the Week (C.D.W.), an honor given to one special person who makes the most ridiculous, racist, hate-mongering statement and thus makes us liberals contrastingly great. Expect Anne Coulter to appear frequently.

Name: Scooter Libby

Occupation: Vice President's gimp , also a douchebag

Charges: Lying to a grand jury, obstructing justice, and then lying some more!

Let's make one thing absolutely clear: Scooter Libby didn't just lie. This isn't like Bill Clinton's situation (and why are conservatives relating the two, anyway? Since when did conservatives start using Bill Clinton as a precedent?). Here's how the two lies are different:

Bill Clinton: "I did not have an affair."
Result: Acquitted of perjury charges.

Scooter Libby: "I don't know who leaked the name of the undercover CIA agent in order to get back at her husband who was speaking the truth about the buildup to the Iraq War, which is a breach of national security and may or may not have jeapordized other agents who are still black ops and working undercover in the middle east."
Result: Found guilty of two counts of perjury, one count of obstruction of justice in a grand jury investigation, and one of the two counts of making false statements to federal investigators.

Scooter Libby lied in order to stifle the investigation of the CIA leak case, which would have gone back to Armitage, Cheney and Rove. He took the fall, and he deserves every second of prison time. But the Bush administration rewards cronyism, and decided to commute his sentence. And it should come as no surprise.
