Guidelines About the Magazine Editor-in-Chief: Managing Editor: Associate Editor: |
It's been too long, I know. I became lax these past few months about updating the magazine, which, contrary to popular belief, is still definitely alive and well. We had almost half a dozen new poems and short stories to put up (seriously, we did!), and it was about this point that our site was hacked. We were both honored and a little teed off, because in order to restore Brew City Magazine, I had to delete my entire site and then re-upload everything. Which meant my mailbox was cleaned out, too. So, in short, we had no email addresses to notify the writers we wanted to publish. But on to good news: the site is still up. If I have any excuse for not bringing about an update as of late, it's only because I've been completely engulfed in getting my first novel published. The novel was purchased by Harbor House Books on March 1st and will be published next year. If I have any other reason for my lax in updates, it's that I've become entrenched in current events, most especially after reading Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. Not only was it hilarious, it was downright infuriating. I heartily recommend the book and recommend every writer to take a very close look at our current political system. There's a lot of great stuff to write about right now, if given the right voice. Keep that in mind. There's a few other books I've finished and would definitely recommend. The first is Crimes Against Nature, by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. It's an amazing book about just how endangered our environment has become under the Bush administration. It's infuriating. It's well-documented. And it's written by an environmental lawyer who knows what he's talking about. You know it's a good book when you scan the reviews on Amazon and find all of the bad reviews label him as a "traitor." I started reading the Dark Tower series over summer, and was absolutely enthralled by it from start to finish. Sure, there's the typical King writing in there, but overall the story is absolutely amazing. So when the final book came out, needless to say I finished it in three days' time. And I heartily recommend it to anyone who has ever considered writing a series. So there you go. Sincerely, Kenneth Brosky
