01/05/08: Working through a fresh batch of submissions right now, but the going is slow because we're accumulating so much spam now that it's almost impossible even get into my mailbox at this point. Hopefully, we'll be able to fix this problem after we purge the mailbox. Until then, expect a new update very soon!

09/21/07: New Fiction, and perhaps a little more. I've managed to finally conquer all of the spam, but at a cost. Some submissions might have been accidentally deleted, so when submitting, please remember to title your email appropriately. This makes it a LOT easier so I don't have to open any messages with the subject: "RE:" and find myself bombarded with ads for penis enhancement pills and devices.

09/04/07: We're still accepting submissions. As of right now, all of my mail accounts are getting a MASSIVE amount of spam, so I'm trying to filter through them and try to get some stuff done. More updates during the month.

06/22/07: New fiction up and every submission is caught up! Start submitting for "Summer Phase 2" coming very soon!!!!!

05/28/07: New poetry up and a new guest columnist in the Editor's Corner. Fiction coming soon!

05/25/07: We're backlogged with fiction and poetry, but we have a TON selected to publish just as soon as everything is sifted through. Special thanks to Stephanie Nolasco for helping with the editing! Check back real soon ...

03/21/07: New fiction on the way. Also, a big thanks for Winning Writers for giving us a little press while we continue to expand! Check out their site by clicking here to look up a ton of writing contests and magazine markets.

03/07/07: New fiction added!

03/05/07: More stuff up, and also I'm currently sorting through a bunch of new submissions. I should have something more up later this afternoon.

12/14/06:
Two new short stories and one poem added!

10/30/06: New Fiction, and a new article in the Milwaukee section.

09/13/06: New Poetry.

08/31/06: New design, new fiction, and whole bunch of other new shit.

03/02/06: Our managing editor, Stephanie Nolasco, has treated us to some great fiction, so check it out. Also, new poetry by Mitchell Stone. Keep those submissions rocking, and be sure to check back this summer when we start offering payment for contributions.

02/12/06: New fiction available now by Edward Rodosek, as well as an editorial by Lisa Kelleher, which you can find in the "Editor's Corner" section. Enjoy, and keep those submissions coming!

12/18/05: Check the Editor's Corner for a brand-new pointless diatribe about the status of the magazine, yadda yadda yadda. Too much info for the news section, that's for sure. One note: look for new fiction by the end of the year.

06/20/05: Brand-new fiction from Kathryn Fischer, a fellow alumnus of the Iowa Writer's Workshop!

05/16/05: Just in--We're going to have a brand-new interview with Mark Borchardt in a few weeks, so keep an eye out! Mark's currently putting the final touches on his next movie, SCARE ME, so we'll get all the details we can on it for ya!

04/02/05: We've whored ourselves out to an advertiser, but we're doing it for the right reason: to go pro, dammit! Brew City's goal has always been to pay all contributors, and all of our revenue from the ad will go to just that project.

03/19/05: A brand-new update! Check the Fiction section for a new short story from Stacey Cochran, author of The Kiribati Test and The Band. Also, click on the Home link to go to Ken Brosky's new official site.

03/09/05: Check out the nifty New York Times headlines! You can find them in the News, Editor's Corner, and home page with different sections of the New York Times. Is there ANY reason at all Grendelguy.com isn't your home page?

03/02/05: So our Web site got hacked, which makes us feel pretty special. But at the same time, it meant a whole helluva lot of work to restore all the files, so it was bittersweet. But we have new fiction and poetry, put together and chosen by our managing editor, Stephanie Nolasco. Check for an update by the end of next week, and keep on submitting.

06/06/04: Currently sorting through an intense load of SPAM for more submissions ... looks like we've got quite a few in the past couple of weeks, so keep an eye out for an update in the very near future.

05/11/04: A brand-new update with new fiction and poetry is now available, and thanks to those who have submitted. We're all caught up on fiction and ready to start the summer right with more frequent updates and publications. So check 'em out and keep submitting! Also, keep a watchful eye on our editor-in-chief, whose novel is currently being considered by Harbor House. Cross your fingers for him, pray, sacrifice goats, whatever you think it would take to show some support for Brew City's creator!

03/29/04: What's this? An update on the horizon? Damned if it isn't, boys and gals. We've got fresh fiction, poetry, and more during the next month, so keep your eyes open and keep on writing. We're also going to try and put together some sort of online polling system to get more feedback from writers and visitors. Hopefully, that'll be up soon!

12/01/03: Lots of new stuff, including fiction, poetry and a new editor's corner with a guest editor. The end of December will see more fiction and poetry, as our mailboxes are already flooding with new submissions. Thanks for checking it out!

10/24/03: We've got some new fiction, poetry, and a non-fiction article presently being edited for publication, and we'll get those online as soon as we possibly can. Thanks for checking it all out!

10/15/03: Still catching up on all of the submissions, but except one to two new fiction works as well as some poetry in the upcoming month. Thanks for checking it all out and we'll keep updates coming.

9/28/03: Be sure to take a look in the "Interviews" section for a brand-new interview with horror LEGEND Poppy Z. Brite, conducted by Brew City's good friend Stacey Cochran. No. This isn't debatable -- if you're serious about reading or writing fiction, you should know Poppy Z. Brite, so go read her interview immediately. And when you're done, check out "Just One of Those Days," an excerpt from Stacey Cochran's upcoming novel The Colorado Sequence. And don't forget to check out the newest installment of the Editor's Corner to see what your editor has been up to.

9/15/03: Finally, an update after a long wait of getting the new fast internet connection up and running! Check out two new short stories in the "Fiction" section by Paul Dracon and Amy Grech! Keep your eyes on the site over the next few weeks as we delve into this slush pile of submissions and dig out a few more gold nuggets for your enjoyment.

9/02/03: While you're waiting for the next installment of fiction and interviews, etc., don't forget to check out TheHarrow.com to read a fiction piece of mine they published!

8/28/03: Internet won't be back up here in the office until September 8. But to celebrate this, expect two new fiction works and hopefully that Poppy Z. Brite work as soon as it's ready. Until then, you'll just have to browse what's already on the site and be happy with that for another week. Luckily, there's a ton of great stuff floating around.

8/22/03: Two more fiction works accepted ... one will be featured. Also, we're currently talking with our good friend Stacey Cochran in an attempt to acquire his interview with Poppy Z. Brite (yes, the one and only) in hopes of publishing that soon, as well.

8/18/03: Another new episode in the "Editor's Corner." Also, we're catching up (finally!) on submissions, and will be posting new fiction by the end of the week.

8/15/03: A new episode is up in the "Editor's Corner," so go ahead and check it out!

8/12/03: The third issue is being received well, thus making all the hard work worth it. Currently, we're getting caught up on the most recent submissions, and -- if any are worth publishing -- more updates will follow at the end of this week.

8/04/03: Issue three is now available for free download in the download section, hallelujia. From here on out, the magazine's main sections will be updated frequently, whenever something publishable is read. The best of the best will then be collected at the end of each quarter to comprise the regular issues. Thanks to everyone who supports this humble magazine, and we'll be having an ice-cold MGD for you.

8/03/03: Finished publishing the next issue early this morning before work, so we'll have that up for download by Monday afternoon, at the latest, and not next weekend as originally planned. Just a few bugs needed to be worked out, and we'll have to fix the Web-only versions before we release the issue. See you soon.

8/02/03: Found a replacement for the interview that fell through, however the mag won't be ready as on August 3rd, thanks to a lot of re-arranging and a lot of broken links. The new official publication date will be August 10th at the latest, and earlier if at all possible. But the good news? This issue is choc-full of some great fiction, interviews, and poetry, and the new site design will be fully interactive. We don't know what "fully interactive" means, but it sounds cool.

7/30/03: Sometimes, life gives you a big-ass kick in the underpants. Surprise, we were hoping for a kick-ass interview with Grendel editor Diana Schutz, but due to a death in the family, she wasn't able to do the interview. Obviously, our hearts go out to her and we wish her the best during this difficult time. Since we're not the heartless bastards some may think we are, we're not going to run around trying to find a "replacement" for the last few pages. Issue 3 is still slated for August 3rd, and we're gonna stick it out. Much love to Diana for even considering taking the time to do our interview in the first place, and vivat Grendel.

7/29/03: The page layout for the third issue is 95% finished, and the new site design is complete. It'll launch at the same time as the next issue, which is slated for August 3rd, weather permitting. Right now, all we're waiting on is a special interview and then everything will be tested and uploaded. Thanks to everyone for making this magazine a success ... downloads for the second issue have topped 750 and still counting!

7/04/03: Back on top of the submissions, sending out a lot of "Thanks you's" and a couple of "congratulations" here and there. Summerfest is in full swing in Milwaukee, which means lots of beer and great music to occupy the down time, including Foo Fighters, Tom Petty, Ra, Zebrahead, O.A.R., and Reel Big Fish. But the next issue is almost finished, and downloads for the past two issues continue to thrive. P.S. Barry White, you will be missed.

6/29/03: All apologies for falling behind with submissions. Ken Brosky took a week off to polish his novel manuscript before sending the full requested copy to Harbor House. Best of luck to him.

6/10/03: The new design for the magazine looks absolutely GREAT, and we're getting a LOT of great pieces lined up for publication. Also, I'm working hard on a few special features to be included in the magazine. More as it develops ...

06/07/03: The third issue is slated for August 1 publication, so mark your calendars! Also, the magazine will feature a new "more magazine-like" format as well as hyperlinks peppered throughout, and we'll also be showcasing music from an independent rock band called Critical Pulse. The music will be packaged inside the magazine, which means the magazine itself will be a little larger than the last two. But don't worry--it'll be well worth it.

05/25/03: Got plenty of products available for purchase. One section is related to the magazine, the other sections are non-"Cliché" related and are slogans and catchphrases of our own creation. We've gone through Cafepress.com so we could get the best deal and keep the costs low. You can find those in the products section.

05/21/03: Issue 2 has already passed the 300 download mark, and Issue 1 has received close to 500. Thanks to everyone who has made this magazine a success, and we're working hard to set up a new design for Issue 3!

04/25/03: Volume 1, Issue 2 is now available for FREE download. Check the Issues section.

12/18/02: Volume 1, Issue 1 is now available for FREE download. Check the Issues section.
