Have you ever had engagement rings or a necklace that leaves a greenish in color spot on your skin I’m sure you’ve wondered what causes it. Generally - it’s a reaction to the metal in the jewelry to everyone who buys cheap jewelry. This occurs to some faster than others<, though, because our bodies are all unique.
Even jewelry you pay more for can have the same effect; because the expensive metals aren’t completely pure; no matter how much it costs. Platinum is one metal that usually doesn’t react with skin so no worries if you own platinum jewelry. To keep gold jewelry turning your skin green be sure its not gold plated or gold rinsed jewelry – it has only a very fine coating of gold over top of a base metal and that coating wears off very quickly. If you have solid gold jewelry choosing a higher karat will help keep green spots from showing up on your skin. Copper jewelry will almost always turn your skin green and there isn’t a whole lot you can do about that.
Stay away from wearing jewelry when you’re sweating a lot it can amplify the skin to metal reaction and also ask your jeweler if there is anything that he can coat the jewelry item with – in order to try to stop the reaction or minimize it. If you can find something to keep the reaction to a minimum you should be able to wear your jewelry quite often. Remember; the green effect won’t hurt you. It’s a chemical skin reaction and not allergies.
Metal allergic reactions turn your skin red plus it could also make your skin feel itchy and inflamed. It’s not anything like a green skin reaction. so make sure if you notice an allergy developing that you stop wearing your jewelry right away. Green skin shouldnt scare you ore keep you from wearing your favorite pieces you’ll just have to keep the area clean so its not ugly.
All in all coating it is usually the best option.
